Sheri DePetro is both a licensed social worker and a licensed acupuncturist who maintains a private practice in Catonsville, MD. She graduated from the University of MD School of Social Work and Tai Sophia Institute, now called Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH). . Sheri has been an Adjunct Faculty member at MUIH for 11 years and is currently a candidate in MUIH's Doctorate of Acupuncture program.

Sheri comes to the MAS board with many years of experience in the non-profit world of human services. Sheri is a 1998 graduate of Leadership Howard County, an extensive training program for community leaders. She is a previous Executive Director for the Sexual Trauma Treatment Advocacy and Recovery Center in Howard County and has worked extensively in the fields of trauma, domestic violence, disabilities and higher education. Through this position, Sheri was President of the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault, participated in numerous local and state boards of directors, worked with local and state legislators including testifying before the Maryland General Assembly, and had several appointments including the Consumer Advisory Board for the previous Freestate Health Plan, co-chaired a joint task force for the office of the Lt. Governor and Attorney General, and was a member of the National Advisory Board during the founding years of RAINN, the national hotline for sexual trauma. She has also served as a member of the Howard County Child Fatality Review Board, the Governor’s Task Force on Children, Youth and Families Systems Reform and was instrumental in working with Med Chi and local hospitals to bring the SAFE program (Sexual Assault Forensic Nurse Examiners) to our hospitals in MD.

Following 9/11, Sheri worked with the state’s Office of Victim Services to provide crisis intervention on a local and state level.

Sheri is a two-time recipient of the Governor’s Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Contributions in the Field of Victim Rights and Services. Sheri has worked in the field of addictions since 1995 in private practice and was one of the first licensed social workers in the state to work with the NADA protocol. She is now a national trainer for NADA, the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association.

Today, acupuncture is her passion and she intends to bring that same passion into her work for the membership of MAS.
